From Dreams to Reality: Daniel's Path to Becoming a Soldier

Exciting Journey Ahead

Next week, we are embarking on a meaningful journey to witness my son Daniel graduate from basic training as a soldier. We’ll first stop to visit my parents in North Carolina, who thankfully were not impacted by Hurricane Helena that struck Asheville, just a few hours away. At their age—now in their late 80s—it’s more important than ever for us to spend quality time together.

Daniel has been in great spirits, sharing amusing stories from his time in training. Recently, he told us about a incident involving cookies disguised as sneakers, which led to some consequences for the entire platoon. It’s moments like these that showcase his ability to find joy even in challenging situations.

We are thrilled to finally see him in person, to hug him, and to express just how proud we are. From a young age, Daniel dreamed of becoming a soldier, often dressing up as one and acting the part. We had many airsoft parties, and back yard sleepovers with campfires and, battles in the woods. I remember his school projects centered around heroes, with soldiers at the forefront. Despite my initial concerns about his path, he always reassured me, saying, “If not me, then who, Mom? Some little guy.” His dedication to serving our country and the values of freedom is truly inspiring.

I’m also grateful that he has been attending church on Sundays with his friends. His aspiration to become an Army Ranger is shared by a group of about 10 to 15 peers, which provides him with a strong support network. While none of us can predict the future, I kindly ask for your prayers for Daniel and his friends, that they remain safe, happy, and healthy.

Thank you for your support, and God bless.

Warm regards,

Dana
